Municipal Parks and Open Spaces

The Municipality owns numerous properties, many of which have specific uses such as sewer connections, wharves and schools. Other properties have been purchased or were acquired through our open space bylaw and serve as green space. Still other properties have been designated for public use and have been developed with a goal in mind, such as water access or picnic areas.

Anvil Park
Anvil Park in Chester Basin offers a peaceful green space in the heart of the community. With a history as the area's blacksmith shop, an informative monument, and the quiet solitude of the brook in the background, this is a wonderful place for a relaxing break.

East River Property
The Municipality owns a nice little piece of property which hugs the banks of the East River. The land connects with Highway 3 to the south and crosses over the Chester Connection trail to the north making for a nice walking loop if you are brave enough to cross the brook.

Village of Chester Gazebo
The gazebo at Parade Square, next to the Chester Yacht Club, is a popular place for weddings and summer music concerts. People can call the Recreation & Parks Department to book the space for an event at 902-275-3490.

Wild Rose Park
Wild Rose Park is a prominent feature in the community of Western Shore. The views of Mahone Bay, the picnic area, the water access and of course the wild rose bushes are a significant part of the community. The park is a perfect spot for a picnic lunch, a dip in the water or a place to sit and watch the many boats cruise the bay in the summer. There is also a small boat launch for your kayak or canoe. The Municipality of Chester took ownership of Wild Rose Park early in 2012.

Green Gym Park
Just on the other side of Croft Road from the playground is our outdoor fitness park. This park gives users a different experience of using exercise equipment outdoors. There are five different stations for a full body workout.

Trail System
Residents and visitors also have access to several trail systems throughout the Municipality. Click here for information on our trails. Click here to get information about the Rum Runners Trail (from Halifax to Lunenburg).
