Citizens Planning Advisory Committee
August 28, 6:30 PM
Council Chambers
151 King St, Chester

What is the project?

A request has been received to permit shipping containers within the Highway Commercial Zone for commercial businesses located to the south of Highway 3 within the Village Boundary.

How can I be heard?

There are several opportunities throughout the process to hear about the proposal, to ask questions, and to provide feedback to the Municipality.

All public meetings and hearings will be posted on this page as the dates are set.

What has happened?

The Village Area Advisory Committee (VAAC) reviewed the initial request on April 18, 2017 and decided to seek feedback and comments from members of the public before providing a recommendation on the amendment.

A Public Information Meeting was held on May 15, 2017. A paper and online survey was conducted, which has now closed. Posters advertising the survey were posted at prominent locations around the Village.

The survey results and a staff report on the Public Information Meeting went back to the Village Area Advisory Committee (VAAC) on June 20. After receiving the results of the public engagement, the Committee gave a negative recommendation, meaning they recommend Council reject the application.

What is the next step?

Now that the Village Area Advisory Committee has made their recommendation, the application will move on to the Citizens Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC) for consideration on August 28, 2017. CPAC will make a recommendation to Council.

Municipal Council will then give the amendment "first reading", which is the first step towards approving or rejecting the amendment. If Council chooses to move ahead with the amendment, they will set a Public Hearing date, which is an opportunity for the public to speak directly to Council about the proposed amendment. After the Public Hearing, Council will then vote on whether or not to approve the amendment.
