It is important to have your civic address number plainly displayed on your house or at the end of your driveway so that emergency services (such as ambulance or fire department personnel) can find you. It is so important, in fact, that it is a requirement according to Civic Addressing By-Law #139.
If you are building a new structure, civic numbers are automatically issued as part of the Building Permit process. Payment for a Civic Number Plate is required at time of application.
Civic Plate Ordering
To order a civic number plate for the first time, or to replace one, please complete the Civic Number Plate Order Form and either drop it off at the Community Development Office or mail it to the Municipality.
Civic Address plates are $14.00 each. They can be picked up from our office, mailing is available for an additional charge, currently $3.00.

New roads are named when a driveway gives access to a third “addressable” building or through the subdivision process. Property owners whose property is accessed by the new road can help name the road.
The Civic Address Coordinator is responsible for new or changing road names according to the Municipality's Civic Addressing By-Law #139, and in consultation with best practices outlined in the Nova Scotia Civic Address Users Guide.
If you notice that a road name sign is missing, please notify the Engineering & Public Works Department at 902-275-1312 immediately.
